Visit hosted by Stephen Clarke commenced at 2 pm to Wylde Green URC, Sutton Coldfield to see and play the 3 manual 39 stop organ built by Nicholson in 1949, retaining pipework from the original Albert S. Iles & Co organ dating from 1905, and completely overhauled by Henry Willis & Sons in 2004.
Visit organised by Chris Booth to All Saints' Church Streetly, commencing at 2 pm with our 2016 AGM, followed by the opportunity to play the very comprehensive specification 3 manual Allen digital organ.
Visit to see and play two very contrasting organs. Visit commenced at 2pm to Hinckley United Reformed Church, hosted by David Crick, to play the historic 1878 3 manual 39 stop tracker action Holdich organ, refurbished by J W Walker in 1961 and 2006-7, and which was awarded a Historic Organ Certificate in 1998. Then on to Hinckley Baptist Church, where the 2 manual 22 stop Walker organ has been replaced by our member Andrew McMillan with a digital organ with Hauptwork software, using the sample set of the Willis organ of Hereford Cathedral, and comprising 57 stops (of the 67 of the Hereford Cathedral organ), and with a substantial 17 speaker/amplifier sound system.
An evening visit to Polesworth Abbey, near Tamworth. Father Philip had kindly invited us to meet at 7 pm in the refectory for tea/coffee, and to then play the 3 manual 28 stop organ originally built by Taylor of Leicester in 1912, and moved here from St Michael's & All Angels, Leicester, then restored in 1998.
Full day organ crawl to Newcastle-under-Lyme, commenced at 10:30 am at St Wulstan's (3 manual 44 stop organ refurbished by Cartwright & Cartwright in 2014), on for 12:15 pm to St George's (3 manual 48 stop organ by Wadsworth, rebuilt by HN&B), then for 1:20 pm to the Congregational Church (3 manual 33 stop Rushworth & Dreaper organ), and then finally for 3 pm to St Paul's (magnificent 4 manual 82 stop Hill organ).
Members' Recital at All Saints' Church Four Oak's commenced at 3 pm. A recital by ten members of Lichfield & District Organists' Association for members, guests, and with an invitation extended also to members of All Saints' Four Oaks Church. Drinks and nibbles provided. Retiring collection.
A visit commencing at 2 pm to Coleshill Parish Church, to play the 3 manual 36 stop Walter James Bird organ, also including an educational workshop presented by Birmingham Organists' Association President Mick Perrier on improvisation.
President's Evening at Lichfield Cathedral. We met at 5:30 pm and attended the 6 pm Advent Carol Service, followed by drinks and nibbles in College Hall, then back over to the Cathedral for an opportunity to play the magnificent 4 manual Hill organ, hosted by our President and Lichfield Cathedral Organist and Assistant Director of Music, Martyn Rawles.
Annual Dinner for members and guests held at 'The Owl at Lichfield', London Road, Lichfield, WS14 9QH. 7pm for 7:30 pm.
