Programme 2005

The 2005 programme of events is (Specifications of the organs can be found by clicking the links in the programme. These have been obtained through  public web sources such as the NPOR):

Tuesday, 4th January 7.00pm for 7.30pm: ODOA Dinner at St Edmund Hall, Oxford
Wednesday, 2nd February 7.30pm: Visit to Goble Harpsichord Workshop.
"Greatestones", Kiln Lane, Risinghusrt, Headington. After an introductory talk by Andrea Goble several instruments will be available to play - so please bring suitable music.
Saturday, 5th February 12:40 pm onwards: Oxford Music Festival Organ Classes, All Saints' Church, Lime Walk, Headington. Hill & Son organ (1860) moved and rebuilt in 1986.
Friday, 11th February Betts Foundation Organ Masterclass with Marie-Claire Alain - 10-12 & 2-4 p.m. Christ Church Cathedral organ loft. Free of charge and open to the general public
Saturday, 5th March 10.30am - 3.30pm: The ODOA Organ Workshop at Greyfriars, Iffley Road (Drake,1981), conducted by John Wellingham. This is in preparation for the tour in April but all ODOA members may attended if they wish. Fee £10 payable on the day.

The 2005 Oxford Organ Tour: a visit to Alsace, Freiburg and Basel and the surrounding region. If you are interested in participating in the tour let the Hon. Sec Mrs C Redman know as soon as possible. Watch this space for more details.
Sunday, 8th May 2.00 - 7.00pm: ODOA combined choirs evensong in St Mary's Church Bampton. Rehearsal begins at 2pm, tea at 5pm, service at 6pm - followed by optional supper at the Romany Inn, Bampton. Please contact David Byrt (01865 557748) if you can come.
Monday, 6th June 7.00pm: Visit to Dorchester Abbey to play the three-manual organ originally by Walker (1870), enlarged by Bishop & Son of Ipswich (1981). Supper afterwards at the Fleur-de-Lys pub, opposite the Abbey.
Saturday, 2nd July 2.00pm: Visit to Stowe School Chapel. Rushworth & Draper organ recently restored. Jonathan Kingstone, the chapel organist, will talk about and demonstrate the instrument before inviting members to play. Visit to the gardens starting 10.30am meeting outside the chapel.
Saturday, 9th July 10.00am: ODOA members are invited to join an Oxford Organ Tour arranged for a group of visiting American organists by John Brennan and Clive Driskill-Smith - finishing late afternoon at Blenheim Palace.
Monday, 12th September 7.00pm: Visit to St Aloysius' Church (Oxford Oratory), Woodstock Road (entrance next to Somerville College) to play the new three manual organ recently completed by Matthew Copley (2004).
Tuesday, 18th October 7.00pm: Visit to Worcester College Chapel to play the recently re-furbished organ, originally built by Nicholson (1865) and enlarged by Mander (1961). We are welcomed to attend Evensong at 6.15pm.
Monday, 14th November 7.00pm for 7.30pm: ODOA Annual General Meeting at Greyfiars Hall, Iffley Road. This will be followed by an illustrated talk by Canon Nicholas Thistlethwaite on A Short History of the English Organ. Refreshments will be served.
Oxford Music Festival,  January 2006 The Oxford Music Festival will happen again in January/February 2006. Organ classes on Saturday 28th January at All Saint's Church, Lime Walk, Headington. Encourage your friends and pupils to participate. Entries must be submitted by Thursday 20th October 2005.
