John T. Belcher MA(Cantab), FRCO(CHM), ARCM studied at the Royal College of Music, where he was a pupil of Sir John Dykes Bower, and also at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he continued his organ lessons with Sir David Willcocks and gained his MA(Cantab), FRCO and ARCM. While still a student, he was Organist of Knockholt Parish Church, Kent, after which he became successively organist of Holy Trinity Church, Folkestone, Assistant Organist at Chester Cathedral, Organist of St. Peter's. Bournemouth, and then Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Asaph Cathedral.
He moved to Tewkesbury in 1985 and was appointed Abbey Organist and Choirmaster. He left the Abbey in July 1996 and became Organist of Godalming Parish Church, Surrey. John was an Examiner of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and Organ Adviser to the Diocese of Portsmouth. He has written books on the organs of Holy Trinity, of Chester Cathedral, and of St. Peter's.
John was appointed Chairman Elect of this Association in1990 and was Chairman from 1991 to 1993.
