David Briggs MA, FRCO, FRSA, ARCM was born in 1962 and was educated at Solihul School and at King's College, Cambridge, where he was organ scholar from 1981-1984. He became an FRCO in 1980, winning five prizes and the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. In 1981 he was awarded the Bulgin medal by the National Youth Orchestra. He toured Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the College choir while he was at King's, and he has made many broadcasts and recordings. In 1983 he received the Countess of Munster Award to study Interpretation and Improvisation with M. Jean Langlais in Paris, and he was furthered in his interest in the art of improvisation by his transcriptions of the recordings of the late Pierre Cochereau. In Decemebr 1984 he was appointed Assistant Organist of Hereford Cathedral, where he took over the direction of both the Hereford Chamber Choir and the Hereford String Orchestra. In 1989 he became Organist and Master of the Choristers at Truro Cathedral, and in 19xx he became Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral. He is highly sought after as a teacher and accompanist, and his leisure pursuits are motoring, railways and flying. David has had to retire from the full post at the Cathedral through ill health, and he is now Organist Emeritus there, and an International Organ Recitalist.

David was appointed Chairman Elect of this Association in 1996 and was Chairman from 1997 to 1999. He served on the Committee as Immediate Past Chairman for a year after that, and was then appointed Vice-President at the AGM in 2000, the postition that he still holds today.
