David Atkinson LTCL, ALCM
Organist of Berkeley Parish Church, Gloucestershire.
David's early studies were with James Stevens, who was the organist of St.Peter on Cornhill, London, and Professor at Trinity College of Music. David was appointed organist to St.Marks Church, Horsham,West Sussex in 1960. He was the Founder and conductor of St.Marks Singers, who performed most of the major oratorios. He was also the accompanist to Horsham Choral Society, following Malcolm McKelvey. David was appointed as organist at Cuckfield Parish Church,W.Sussex in 1975. In 1978 he moved to Dursley and became peripatetic locum organist until appointed as organist at St.Marys Parish Church, Thornbury in 1980. He took up his present post as Director of Music at St.Marys Parish Church, Berkeley in 1984.
During his time at Berkeley David has been responsible for the rebuilding of the 3 manual Abbot and Smith organ, and for rebuilding the choir. David is married with 2 daughters, who are both organists, one in Bristol and the other in Barnstaple.
