'The American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) is dedicated to the preservation of a unique American art form -- the theatre pipe organ and its music. The membership includes musicians, technicians, and enthusiastic listeners -- all devoted to the preservation and continued enjoyment of what we believe to be a national treasure.

'Organized in 1955, ATOS has grown into an international society of more than 5,000 members. There are over 60 chapters in the United States and foreign countries. Members working at the chapter level are accomplishing the goals of ATOS to preserve, restore, maintain, and promote the theatre pipe organ. Presenting concerts, silent film programs and educational seminars for the general public are but a few of the regularly scheduled chapter activities.'

'Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) was originally established in 1988 to provide a copyright solution for churches wanting to reproduce the words of hymns and worship songs for their times of worship. As churches began to adopt new technology into their activities CCLI responded to their needs and began to provide copyright cover to show films, play or perform music, record services, photocopy from authorised publications and now, with the increase usage of the Internet, legally download song lyrics and music.

'CCLI became aware that other organisations needed permission from the copyright owners for their activities and were able to offer licences to schools, events, Christian bookstores and many others. CCLI is able to offer practical advice and support through the maze of copyright. With systems in place to ensure that copyright owners are fairly rewarded for their work, CCLI has become one of the most respected organisations around today.'

What is a Cinema Organ? 'It's an organ in a cinema - or, at least, that's how it got its name. Cinema (or theatre) organs originally made music for silent movies in the 1920s, but when the talkies came they took on the role of solo musical instruments. Cinema-goers would often find the music of the Mighty Wurlitzer (or Compton or Christie) as exciting as the movie, and the theatre organists themselves became stars. Radio and records brought the same thrilling sounds to the home, and the music of the theatre organ became part of everyday life. Theatre organs are real pipe organs, but they're much more versatile than church organs. Robert Hope-Jones, the organ builder who set the ball rolling at the turn of the century, called them "Unit Orchestras", instruments that really can cope with everything from classics to big band. The rich, spine-tingling sound of a mighty theatre organ is something you'll never forget!'
